Re: Demote & remove Exchange from old SBS server that was transitioned to W2k3 & E2k3 standard using transition pack

I need to demote my old SBS server.

I upgraded it from SBS W2k3 to Standard W2k3 using the transition pack
(BIG MISTAKE). Now I need to remove Exchange and Demote it-as I want
to wipe it off the face of the planet now. (I have a new W2k3 & E2k3
standard server with fresh install.) I've done all the FSMO role
moves, moved off WINS, DNS & DHCP, Moved all mailboxes to new Exchange
& replicated all Public folders. If this were a NORMAL server, It
would be ready to demote & remove exchange.

However,
1. When I type DCPROMO, It tells me I have to remove the certificate
server before demoting the server. I have a bunch of certificates I've
never created-that must be part of SBS. Domain controller
certificates, EFS certificates, Web server certificates. Can I load
Certificate services on the new server and move these?
2. Is there some documentation somewhere that tells me how to demote
and old SBS server that has gone through the transition pack?

I am wary of just removing exchange, as I don't know if there are any
lingering SBS things out there (I've had it off for a week without a
problem.)

Any help from someone who's done this before would help.

Focus on the Certificates for the time being. These represnt your most
important issue. Personally, I'd try to get rid (temporarily at least) of
things using the exisiting CA certs and start a new. IMO, get those EFS
files decrypted and moved first !!!
