problem connecting to server from XP

I have just installed SBS 2003 and it is now taking anywhere from 1 minute to over 6 minutes to logion to the server from any of the Windows XP Pro workstations.
Any Ideas what could cause this.
If I disable to firewall in SBS it is slightly quicker.
The firewall is needed as I have set 2 NIC's one to the local LAN the other is connecting to the internet via the WAN router, I don't want to leave disabled.
