Re: SBS 2003 Premium Setup of end users.

Once those users have logged in (or you have logged in for them) and
succefully completed the SBS setup for their profile, you can delete the
user from the local Administrators group on the workstation. They then will
be "standard" (Limited) users.

As for hiding progams in the Start menu from "Limited" users, that's a bit
more complex. These links may help...

Maybe someone else has a better way to approach this.

In the Local Users & Groups | Groups | Administrators

I saw an entry for domain users and I deleted it.

Know I have the following showing in the Local Users & Groups | Groups |
Administrators.

Administrator
Bob
SMALLBUSINESS\Bob
SMALLBUSINESS\Jen
SMALLBUSINESS\Seth
SMALLBUSINESS\Zachary

The Last three listed here should be only regular end users and not
administrators. How to correct this?

Then the other issue will be to correct access to programs under START |
PROGRAMS.
and then how to clean up the icons on the end users.

No. Domain Admins are domain administrators, not standard users. Under
the
Administrators local group, if you don't see the "Domain Users group"
inside
it, do you see the names of the "standard" domain users that were added
to
the workstation?

In the Local Users & Groups | Groups I see the following listed:

Administrators
Backup Operators
Guest
Network Configuration Operators
Power Users
Remote Desktop Users
Replicator
Users
Debugger Users
HelpServicesGroup
Offer Remote Assistance Helper

Under the Administrator I found a listing for SMALLBUSINESS\Domain
Admins.

Is this what you are referring too? So, I just need to delete this
Group?

see if there is an entry for domain users. If so, delete it. By
default,
SBS needs a user to have local admin permissions on the workstation to
complete the initial setup of the user(s). It does this by adding the
domain users group to the local Administrators group on the
workstation.
After the initial setup, those permissions are not needed and the
user(s)
can be dropped back to a "standard" user by deleting the domain users
group
on the workstation.

This may fix your icon problem too.

I did as the wizards said for the user setups on the server unit and
then
did
what was required from the workstation (XP PRO unit). Know I don't
think
they are correct!

On the workstation unit I logged in as each end user and let the
small
business server program do its setup of the user account on the
local
machine.

This workstation computer has been a stand alone unit for many years
so
there is a full compliment of software on it.
i.e. - XP Pro OS, XP Professional Office Suite, AutoCad, Power DVD,
Divx,
HP
DVD Program, Iomega, Tax Softwares, Quicken, Quickbooks, Record Now,
Acrobat
complete, Corel Draw 11, Roxio, APC Software and about 30 or so kids
software
programs.
It seems that all of the end users have access to all of these
programs.

I have about 1 dozen shortcut icons that show up on each of the end
users
desktop that they do not need access to. Only I need access to them.
How
do
I remove them just from there user setups and not mine?

This hard drive was many used by me solely for many years(it came
from
the
computer that is now a full time Server Unit).
I had a similar hard drive setup for the rest of the family on
another
computer which is the current Workstation1 unit. The big difference
was
that
the other Hard Drive was setup with just XP Pro OS, XP Professional
Office
Suite, All the kids games, virus protection and browsers.
That hard drive currently resides on the Workstation1 unit as a
spare
drive
for which I can access at any time.

So there are programs that I would not want to have showing up on
the
start/programs of the end users.

On the workstation computer, under the local users & groups I see
the
admin
group. I guess the bigger question is how come when I followed the
step
by
step instructions of the wizards on setting up new users and
assigned
the
3
new users as end users during this process, admin rights should not
have
been
assigned at all. Not sure why they show up here in the first place?
Especially when I assigned them as regular end users.

Second part from above. When I remove the icons from one user to
the
recycle bin, it removes those same icons from all users. This is
not
the
way
I was hoping for here. Why is this happening this way?

HELP!!!!!
