Hi,
Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
From your description, I know that you did the following.
1. Backup the Exchange on server CPSERVER.
2. The server crashed and you have a new reinstallation. The server has a
different domain name.
3. You tried to restore Exchange from the recent backup. When you tried to
locate a folder for logfile, you get the prompt "Unable to create log path.
Check to make sure that it is a valid path."
If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.
For the error message "Unable to create the log path. Check to make sure
that it is a valid path.", please check the following:
1. Please make sure the Information Service is started on the Server.
2. Please add Everyone "full control" permission to the "Temporary location
for log and patch files".
Based on my experience, event ID 9519 and 8012 may appear at the same time.
If that's true, please look at the following KB:
Event IDs 9519 and 8012 When Starting the Information Store
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;258529
To restore Exchange Backup, please make sure to dismount the store and made
sure
the "overwrite with a restore" was checked. For the detail process, please
look at KB:
258243.KB.EN-US XADM: How to Back Up and Restore an Exchange 2000 Server
Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;258243
In addition, if you want to recovery the information store from the older
backup successfully, the following information needs to be preserved the
same as the old Exchange server. Please have a check first.
- Organization Name
- Administrative Group Name
- Storage Group Name
- Store Name
If any of the four names above doesn't in accord with the original name,
the stores cannot be loaded on the new server. Therefore, the restore will
fail. You have to reinstall the whole Exchange system from scratch. All the
information in the new Exchange will be lost.
For more information, please refer to:

If the problem still exists, please kindly help me collect the following
information for further research:
1. Screen shot of the error message.
2. MPS Report
1) Visit
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE to download the file.
2) Run the MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE on the server box.
3) Wait for 10~15 minutes.
4) Open Windows explorer, navigate to %SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Exchange\cab\
5) Send the .cab file directly to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject:

I am looking forward to hear from you.
If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Best regards,
Robert Li(MSFT)
