RE: Out of Office not working externally, despite correct settings

Hello Simon,

Thank you for your email.

I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:

Step 1: I would like to suggest you stopping the Simple Mail Transfer
Protocol (SMTP) and Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine services, and then
restart them. After that, let's turn off OOF assistant in this specific
mailbox and turn it on again to test this issue.
Step 2: Uninstall any anti-virus software on SBS, and test this issue.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:

1. I had sent a test email to test@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Please open Message
Tracking Center, track this mail and send a screenshot on it to me.

2. Please open Message Tracking Center, search the email send to my email
address and send a screenshot on it to me.

3. Please mail me the user name and password of the test account, and let
me know the OWA login URL.

4. Enable SMTP logging and gather SMTP log to troubleshoot the issue:

A. Open Exchange System Manager, expand Servers -> <Server name> ->
Protocols -> SMTP, right-click "Default SMTP Virtual Server" and click
Properties.

B. Under the General tab, check the option "Enable Logging".

C. With "W3C Extended Log File Format", click "Properties".

D. Under "General Properties", make sure "Use local time for file naming
and rollover" is CHECKED.

E. Switch to the "Extended Properties", and then select to enable All the
logging Options.

F. Click OK to apply the modification.

G. Right-click Default SMTP Virtual Server and click Stop.

H. Right-click Default SMTP Virtual Server and click Start to restart the
SMTP server.

I. Reproduce the issue, repeat step G to stop Default SMTP Virtual Server,
copy out or zip the SMTP log files in the
"%systemroot%\system32\logfiles\SmtpSvc1" folder, and then restart the
"Default SMTP Virtual Server".

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

|
| I have done this and can confirm that there is NO outgoing OOO reply in
the
| message tracking centre from my "Test User" account.

|
| We are using an external SPAM gateway and i can confirm that this is not
| causing it (as there is no reply being sent out anyway).

|
| I have performed these actions to clean boot the server and can confirm
that
| the issue still exists. I have used msconfig to change the startup
settings
| back to how it was and rebooted again.

|
| test@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is the "Test User" account with OOO on via OWA.
|
| > 2. Does the issue occur with specific users or machines?
|
| No. All of our SBS user's OOO work as expected internally. Non of them
work
| externally.
|

screenshots

|
| I can use screenshots if you like. But i simply logged into OWA under the
| Test User acount (after creating it), clicked on "Options", clicked "Im
| currently out of the office", entered "Test Reply" into the "AutoReply
only
| once to each sender with the following text" field and clicked the "Save
and
| Close" button directly above to save the settings. (Do you need
screenshots
| of this?)
