RE: SBS 2k3 SP1 : Cannot install Sharepoint Services

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Robert
Did you reach a resolve to this problem; I too have had this problem, and
cannot reach a good conclusion; I've now re-installed and updated all
compenents with MSDE being the last component as in kb829114 albeit failing
to install. I'm now on SP2 for the SBS/server. I've also had a fail with the
CMAK on RRAS.
Everything has been OK on this server until about a month ago (22nd Feb)when
"monitoring and reporting" failed and I had to re-install (Reporting queued
error: faulting application mssbsssr.exe, version
5.2.2893.0, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.3790.1830, fault address
0x00030f7b.) This cleared the problem but I have had spurious problems since
and then "companyweb" disappeared. The machine has almost been rebuilt from
scratch. I would appreaciate your comments as reading certain blogs it
appears we are sharing a common problem.
Kind regards
Phil

Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that you cannot WSS on SBS 2003 SP1 server.
If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Please let me the following to make the situation more clearly:

You have already installed SQL 2005, what the version of SQL 2005?

I'd like to give you the following suggestions:

If you're using an SBS with SP1 upgraded from SP0, you should follow these
steps to reinstall SharePoint Companyweb.

1. Please strictly follow KB 829114 for reinstallation of SharePoint
companyweb (with SBS 2003 SP0 CD3 inserted).

2. If the system prompts you for SP1 installation CD3, follow these steps:

a) Open Registry Editor and set 'isrunfromweb' to '2', under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer.

b) Download SBS 2003 SP1 (885918) to C:\.

c) Open CMD window and type "C:\SBS2003-KB885918-SP1-X86-ENU.EXE /x" (with
no quotation marks) and press Enter.

d) Specifying a path for the extracted files (such as C:\SBSSP1).

e) Point the system to the folder created in the previous steps
(C:\SBSSP1\CD3).

3. After finish the installation, install KB 832880.

More information:

832880 You cannot successfully install the intranet component or connect
to http://companyweb in Windows Small Business Server 2003

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;832880

4. Install WSS 2.0 SP1.

5. Install SBS 2003 SP1 again.

6. Reboot the server and check whether the problem persists.

If the problem still cannot be resolved, please help me collect the
following information:

1. Send all the logs from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small
Business Server\Support folder to my mailbox.

2. Send all the logs from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows
Small Business Server 2003\Logs to my mailbox (you can zip them to make the
email smaller).

3. Sharepoint Error Log: %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$Sharepoint\LOG\errorlog.

4. Setup MPS Report
1) Please download the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE from the following link and
then run this tool to gather some information from the problematic
computer:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=cebf3c7c-7
ca5-408f-88b7-f9c79b7306c0&displaylang=en
2) Double-click on the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE file.
[Note] This process may take some time; however, it will not have a
negative effect on the performance.
3) A CAB file will be generated in the
%systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab directory called
%COMPUTERNAME%_MPSReports.CAB. The CAB file will contain the reports
generated by the MPS Reporting Tool.

Please send the information to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject:
37896824- SBS 2k3 SP1 : Cannot install Sharepoint Services.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)
