Re: Errors after SP2 install

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I'm told that Dell offers Linux and/or no preinstalled OS, but only on
specific models. If you can't find it online, I'd give them a call.

I hope you change your mind about switching, but even if you do give up the
MS product, I still stick by my advice not to add or change anything in the
two weeks before vacation. I learned it the hard way too : -)

Thanks Dave,

I figured out the DTC startup problem. OK I see about the performance
Logs
and Alerts, i'll just ignore the administrative e-mail that says it should
be
running.

We use remote web workplace, but I've been tunneling X (the linux desktop)
over ssh since the early 90's, its simple. You can use a linux machine or
cygwin on an XP machine.

Evolution is the Linux Outlook equivalent. Nobody has a replacement for
all
the shared public folder features Exchange has. At least not a free one.

Microsoft products are no longer cost effective for us. MS is an
expensive
illusion. If you watch that movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley" Bill Gates
explains this illusion.

If Dell doesn't offer Linux instead of Windows, we wont be buying Dell
anymore either.

thanks for the help Dave

What's the specific error you get when you try to manually start the
Distributed Transaction Coordinator?

I don't want to get into a religious argument, but I personally would not
consider installing a service pack within the two weeks before an absence
from the office. I'm not sure I'd expect better results with non-MS
products, but I suspect your users might object to the switch from
Outlook
to Pine or whatever. Does anyone in your company use RWW?

As usual, right before my vacation. I'm tired of the usual MS sh--. We
are
migrating to Ubuntu and redhat pretty soon.

I fixed the worst problems, but there are still two autostart services
that
don't want to run.

Performance Logs and Alerts
