hi terence,
thx for the reply, u´r absolutely right. i got a intel 82801 gr/gh
controller, version of the file is 5.0.0.1032, size is 850 kb.
the volumes are healthy and running, but there is an unallocatet block of
8mb. is this a problem, too?
on the software side there is only the " intel matrix storage manager"
installed, no monitoring- or backupsoftware.
i will update the driver later this day, not during office-hours.

According to your description, I understand that you got error "The Files
for the Recovery Diskette Could Not Be Created" on your SBS 2003 server. If
I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
This issue is frequently seen when the Intel RAID controller is used. The
problem is probably caused by Intel RAID controller driver iaStor.sys. When
an ASR file is creating, this driver incorrectly responds to a system call
which makes the system to believe that C: driver is an offline cluster
disk. Hence the NTBACKUP program terminates the process. What we need to do
is to update the RAID controller to its newest driver as well as Intel
Application Accelerator RAID Edition program.
To confirm this issue, you could let me know the following information
1. In the Device manage, please open the "Driver Details" of the SCSI
controller. The driver should be c:\windows\system32\drivers\iastor.sys.
Please let me know the file version and size.
2. Please come to http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa_raid/ and
check the driver update.
This issue could also be caused by that there are some failed volume in the
system. Please open the Disk management and make sure all free space has
been allocated and all volumes are in healthy and running status.
Meanwhile, if you install the following software on SBS, please uninstall
them:
Intel Server Manager
MegaSpy RAID monitor software
3rd-pary backup software
