Hope you don't mind if I say "DUH". Clearly Gav has already done the
work in AD setting up the profiles, so there was no point in
addressing that, and it sounds like they are set up correctly. But
when they are not working properly, one potential problem is at the
workstation level where the profiles do not cooperate and won't change
to roaming. I have dealt with this first hand, so it's not like I
don't have some experience with this.

Maybe you have a suggestion for Gav as to where to look for the
problem?

It sounded to me like the accounts were not created properly and that he
was trying to do it at the workstation level instead - that was the reason
for my post.

Users should have a \\servername\profileshare\username share that their
profile is pointed too.

He can check on the server to see if it shows in their account settings.

next, from any computer properly joined to the SBS Domain, he can log in
with that account and test - it should show roaming at that point.

If it's not showing roaming then he needs to check GPO to see if it was
disabled, which is not the default, in case something else was changed.

I was under the impression that he was, at the workstation, trying to
point it to the server share, not using the account settings, but trying
to do it from the local workstation only.

Profiles are setup correctly and yes if I look on the client they are
displayed as Roaming. A folder with the username is created on the server
but that is all. It is something to do with the clients because I added my
laptop to the domain and it works fine. I have installed UPHClean just in
case something was locking the profile and stopping it being written back
but it has made no difference. I have also re-installed SP2 but this has
made no difference. I am now in the process of sifting through the winlogon
debug logs, what fun. :o) Wishing I'd done a fresh install rather than using
the prebuilt XP (acer oem), because I'm thinking its something to do with
that.
