RE: Remote access recurrent disconnection

Hello Terence,
1. I always run the remote access wizard after completing the CEICW.
2.The remote and internet access were not slow before I changed the setting
to PPPoE. This morning, I changed the setting back that is using a local
router with fixed IP and the internet connection was fast and no
disconnection of web pages occurred. However I had to return the settings
back (PPPoE) as remote was not accessible.
3.For event 20111 remoteaccess you did not mention anything. After applying
the setting for PPPoE, I'm getting this error after every 5 mins.
4. In my netgear router configuration I can see the PPPoE but it is not set
on this one. Instead it is using PPPoA in the encapsulation settings. I
tried to change it to PPPoE to see if this will help but we cannot get
internet or remote access.
Please advise for further settings at your end.
Thanks
Regards
Manisha

Hello Manisha,.
Thank you for kind update.
After you correct run the CEICW, I suggest you to run the Run Remote Access
wizard again:
Run Remote Access wizard on SBS
a) On the Small Business Server 2003-based server, click To Do List in the
left pane of the Server Management console.
b) Under Network Tasks, click Configure Remote Access.
c) Click Next, click Enable Remote Access, click to select the VPN Access
check box, and then click Next.
d) Type the fully qualified public domain name (FQDN) of your server, click
Next, and then click Finish.
Important: please input your FQDN, but not IP address.
e) When the wizard is completed, click Close.
For the performance issues:
Remote access is slow.
Internet connection is very slow
The remote computer did not respond
A large amount of memory is committed to applications and processes
I suggest you to connect your Internet service provider, to confirm the
bandwidth and stability of your Internet connection.
Meanwhile, many worm viruses will tie up network bandwidth and server
performance. I suggest you to install last antivirus software on whole
network, do full scan.
For the event log 529, it just means the VPN client enter incorrect
username or password when they try to set up VPN connection.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if this problem reoccurs or if
there's anything else I can do for you.
Thank you and have a nice day,
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hello Terence,
|
| Thank you for your reply.
|
| I have followed the instructions below and the remote access works fine
| without any disconnection. However there are several things I have noted:
|
| 1. Remote access is slow.
| 2. Internet connection is very slow internally and some of the website
pages
| are not displayed. You have to do a refresh, the it takes time to
display
| the web page.
| 3. In the event viewer, I get the following error message" A Demand
Dial
| connection to the remote interface Small Business Broadband Connection on
| port PPPoE6-0 was successfully initiated but failed to complete
successfully
| because of the following error: The remote computer did not respond. For
| further assistance, click More Info or search Help and Support Center for
| this error number. "
| 4. In the security event log, I get two login errors: (a)

| Error Code: 0xC0000064
| 5. I also get " Allocated Memory 3/20/2007 10:59 AM 1
| A large amount of memory is committed to applications and processes.
| Consistently high memory usage can cause performance problems.
|
| To determine which processes and applications are using the most memory,
use

| they continue to use a high level of memory and are less critical
processes
| or services, try stopping and then restarting them.

Alert

taskpad.
|
| In reply to your questions:
|
|
| 1. Do you have route before your SBS? - Yes A netgear DG834GT which acts
as
| the firewall
| >
| > 2. Do you have one or two network adapters on your SBS? - Two internal
network card
| >
| > 3. Do you have fix or dynamic IP on your SBS external network adapter?I
have a fixed IP on both the netgear router modem and network cards on SBS
server. Only dynamic IP on ISP's side and DDNS hosting company.
| >
| > 4. Do you get connection error only when the external IP changed? Yes
but after 3 hours it refreshes by itself and we can connect remotely.
| >
| > 5. Please let me know the detail steps you run the CEICW every time. It
is the steps you have described in step 1 below - 14/03/07.
|
| Apologies for replying after so many days. In fact I wanted to be sure
that
| the disconnection problem does not occur again.
|
| Waiting for your reply.
