Yes the problem is that your device is not getting a valid IP address on the
network
Have you tried Activesync 4.2 (I've heard some flakiness with 4.5
Have you downloaded the White paper on using WM5 in an SBS network?

Hi,
I'm currently playing around with Windows Mobile 5 and Direct Push with
our SBS 2003 PE network, with the intention of rolling out a solution for
a client of mine using a similar setup (except they're on SBS2003 SE).
I have sucessfully setup Direct Push, so I'm now receiving emails from our
Exchange Server OTA to my Windows Mobile 5.0 device (an Orange SPV-C600 -
using the standard SBS self-signed certificate [if anyone is interested! -
if you're an Orange UK customer you'll know what I mean!]).
However, I am having great difficulty in setting up a hard-wired sync in
addition to the OTA Exchange settings.
Here's what I want to do. My home PC uses Outlook 2007 to connect to my
Exchange server via RPC-HTTP. Whenever I connect my smartphone via USB to
my PC, ActiveSync (4.5 Build 5096), tries to setup a new partnership:
Windows PC. I want to be able to use the existing Exchange Server settings
in my phone to sync to my server using my wired connection. If I try to
use the Exchange server settings as per my over-the-air config (i.e. don't
change anything on the connection settings), I get a failure 80072efd "The
server could not be reached".
I've also tried it connected directly into my office SBS-networked PC,
again via USB, with the same problem (this time using Outlook 2003). I
suspected this may have been something to do with the certificate on the
smartphone refering to our external domain name rather than our internal
domain name, but as the connection from my home PC failed in the same
manner I might be mistaken.
And what's with the phone's IP address being of the 169.254.xxx.xxx
variety. Does this have something to do with it (possibly showing my
naivety here)?
Does anyone have any "ActiveSync for Dummies" documentation that they
think would help me?
What Am I missing?
Neil
