Re: How to Modify Backup Runner to type "Copy" mode

Just be careful if you change the backup mode from normal to copy on the
Exchange Information Store backup because your log files will grow and
consume all your free space unless you select "Enable circular logging" in
the "First Storage Group" properties. With this selected, there is risk for
loss of information if a disaster occurs between backups.

Hi Merv,

Did what you suggested and saved "type=copy" in backup job, but later
scheduled run revealed it was still doing type "normal". (From Backup log
details).

Appears that 'backuprunner' may be hard coded with command line
parameters?
Where does it get it's parametres from? Registry hack? (where mode normal
maybe = value 1, 'copy' = 2 ?) ** Just a suggestion !

Thanks,

Hi Neil,

While I've never had occassion to do this, I believe you can first run
the
SBS Backup Wizard, then open NTBackup | Backup tab | Load Selections and
Browse/Select the .bks location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small
Business Server\Backup\Small Business Backup Script.bks). Then on the
menu,
Tools | Options | Backup Type. Then change the type from Normal to Copy
and
save the .bks file.

I have a client (Medical Practice) that requires the "SBS Backup Job"
available through the System Manager, to be able to perform the backup
using
mode "copy" instead of normal as we do not want to reset archive bits.
This
is because we have in place an 'Offsite / Online' Backup solution that
dynamically updates changes to data files in selected folders.
I schedule this facility to shutdown for two hours each evening so that
the
server can do a full system backup, but when I start the offsite
facility
again, the SBS Bcakup has changed the archive bits to indicate the
files
have
been backed up, thus the offsite facility will not detect any file
changes
for that day.
How can I modify the automated facility to do a "copy" mode type
backup?

Thanks for your Help,
