Re: SBCore problem

Some more information:

"netdiag" shows two DC's. The SBS2003 server with its signle NIC and a
"virtual" NIC belonging to the installed RAS server. This should not give a
problem I think

"DcDiag" all test are pased.

I thought the troubles with SBCore had I cycle of 7 or 14 days, but this
week It happend twice.

The DC servse a .local domain, the same .nl domain is beeing hosted at my
ISP. (should also be no problem I think).

When the SBcore message appears, the system does not shutdown but "hangs",
no client can than logon. problems with exchange, etc appear, then a need to
manual restart. I think the SBcore message is the cause not a consequence.

Alex,

(Still hoping somone can help me)

The device is a device from my ISP (Copperjet 810 modem/router), its is
forwarding ports 444, 443, 1723 (TCP) and port 0 (GRE). All other ports are
closed (or not routed).
If my SBS2003 server really sees an other DC, I wonder if there is a way to
search for this DC. Is there a command or programma to search for this DC ?

Hi Alex,

It's most likely the SBS is seeing something beyond your router. With a
single nic, the only thing between your lan and the internet is that device.
What device is it, make/model - and how is it configured (ie. dmz, or port
forwarded (which ones).

Hi Les,

Thanks for your response.

I started this domain with only this SBS2003 server, one NIC is connected
to
the switch which connects the server with the 4 clients and a GateWay to
the
internet. The Gateway is a "simple" NAT router not running a domain
controller or something like that.

But ..... here is some new and possible interresting infromation:
Previously
there was a other domain controller (win2000 server) serving a different
domain. I had to transfer some files from this "old" domain server to the
new
SBS2003 server, therefore a shortly plugged this old server in the network
and tranfered the files. After transfering I disconnected the old server
(serving a other domain with diffent domain name). After disconnecting the
old server I checked the FSMO roles and they still belong to the new
SBS2003
server.

Hope the above information helps in finding an answer,

Alex

Hi Alex,

Was there ever another SBS or another server on the network?
How did this SBS come to life - was it a clean install/new domain, or a
migration of some sort, or injected into another network?
How many NICs in the SBS computer - and how does it connect to the
internet.
i.e. is there any chance it could be seeing something else?

Hi everyone,

I have the following problem with my recently installed SBS2003 SP2
domain
controller. I hope somebody can help me.

Problem: Every 14days (or 7, not quite shure) after the installation
date
of
the SBS server I need to reboot the server because no client can logon
anymore. The SBS server log shows all kined of errors (MSExchange
problems,
GPO policy problems, etc.). One error stands out (I think): SBCore

"Multiple domain controllers running Windows Server 2003 for Small
Business
Server have been detected in your domain. To prevent this computer from
shutting down in the future, you must remove all but one of these from
the
domain."

The "strange" thing is that this SBS2003 server is the only server in
the
domain, serving 4 XP-clients. Furthermore I checked the five FSMO roles
and
all belong to the current SBS2003 server.

Can somebody help me to explain the above situation?

Greetz,

Alex
