RE: DST Update KB931836 Failure

Hi Joel,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that you cannot download Update KB931836
through WSUS and get error: Download failed 0x80244019. If I am off-base,
please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my experiences, the problem could be related to the following
possibilities:
1. ISA rule configurations blocked the traffic
2. HTTP filter compatibility issue

Please take the following steps to narrow down this issue:

Step 1: Can I assume that you have already run the CEICW on the SBS
server? Please open the ISA management console, navigate to 'Firewall
policy'. Do you see a rule named 'SBS Microsoft Update Site Access Rule'?
If not, please run the CEICW on the SBS server. Open SBS Server management
console, navigate to 'To Do List'. Click 'Connect to the internet' in the
right panel. Follow the wizard to configure the network and enable the
firewall features. Will the problem be resolved? More info:
825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

Step 2: If the rule is existed, please check the IE proxy settings. Open
Internet Explorer, navigate to 'Tools'->'Internet Options'. In
'Connections' tab, click 'LAN Settings' button. You will see the proxy
settings. Please disable the automatic detecting options there and enable
the proxy server option. Manually input the SBS server's internal IP
address. Use port 8080 as proxy port. Apply the settings to see if the
problem will be resolved.

Step 3: If you have applied ISA server 2004 Sp2, please make sure that the
HTTP update for SP2 is installed. Please check the following KB article for
more details of the update:
916106 Update for HTTP issues in Internet Security and Acceleration Server
2004 Service Pack 2.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;916106

Will the problem be resolved after installing the update?

4. If the problem persists, you may open a command prompt and input

Proxycfg -p ServerName:8080

Try the Windows update again. What's the result?

If the problem persists, please help to gather the following information
for further research:

1. WindowsUpdate.log file under C:\Windows\ folder.

2. MPS Report:
1) Run MPSRPT_WSUS.exe that I had sent you in the attachment (I will send
you a mail which inlcudes the file, please unzip it.) on a problem WSUS
client and then send me the log files it had generated.
2) Run MPSRPT_WSUS.exe on the WSUS server and send me the report it had
generated.

You can send all the log files to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject:
38064000-Computer not signed for WSUS.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)
