I'm not arguing Jim. It is clear from 2 Microsoft sources that SBS 2003 CALs
are not concurrent. I've also been in person at a couple of sessions hosted
by Eric where he said the same thing. Sure you can get different answers
from different MS licensing specialists, but I'd advise getting anything
they say that differs from the no concurrency concept in writing to protect
you or your clients down the road if an audit should occur.

You could argue away. What if you have device cals? There is a rule
about licensing. Keep calling and asking until you hear the answer you
want to hear. You will get many answers.

Does 5 User CAL = concurrent usage? i.e. you could have 6 users but no
more
than 5 concurrent?
a. ANSWER: No, there is no concurrent usage of SBS CALs. So, if you
have 5 User CALs, 5 Users can access the SBS Server. If you add a 6th
User,
you would need to purchase an additional SBS User CAL for that User.

Do you have 75 concurrent users? You could have 200 users but only
allow 75 to be logged on at one time.

I did a google search of sbs transition pack.

You can migrate the Active Directory to new servers and then if things
blow up you still have your SBS. You may find some ideas over at

We are getting close to the 75 user limit and are looking to transition
to
2K3/Exchange 2K3. Currently we have SBS 2K3 Premium

What are our options? Can we do the migration to another piece of
hardware
or does it have to be done in place? Do we have to use the transition
pack
and or upgrade to R2 in either scenario?

We will be eventually migrating to 2 new pieces of hardware, 1 for
Exchange
and another for File server/DC.

As a matter of budget we are looking at different scenarios. Go ahead
and
purchase all the new software + hardware right off the bat, or purchase
just
the software licenses to remove the 75 user limit and defer the hardware
to a
later date.

If we decide to transition to another server right from the get go, can
we
revert back to the SBS server if something goes wrong. Or, is there
anyway
that we can proceed with the migration, and still be able to revert
back?

Thanks in advance for any help.
