Re: Remote Desktop

Many thanks Dave...that is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for...and
I searched the MS KB and this forum and dont remember seeing anything about
checking the firewall settings....seems all recent issues are
still...unresolved??

I can connect to other WS...so it is specific to this machine...this tells
me I have the routing and server set up correctly....

Could be some malware too...just want all my ducks in a row...as to not
waste too much time.

Thanks again for your timely response.

On the one that's refusing remote access, go to CP -> Windows Firewall. On
the bottom of the first tab, see if it says it's using the domain settings.
Using the non-domain settings (which is incorrect for a PC connected to the
LAN) will block remote access. The fix is to set the Network Location
Awareness service to Automatic and reboot the workstation (or set to
automatic, make sure it's running, and run gpupdate /force).

If this is the issue, it's a timing thing with the NLA service - it's not
starting before the firewall, so it's applying the wrong group policies.
Setting to automatic should fix it every time.
