RE: "Delayed Write Failed" error message when you write a file to

Good morning. Thank you very much for putting so much effort into my
situation, we're most appreciative.
We have a small network and the incident has happened just once. It involves
our order entry and inventory management program during a process which is
run maybe twice a year. The exe files for the program reside on the
workstations and the data files are on our (single) server which has only one
hard drive.
The error message appeared when I was archiving old records from 3 files.
The archiving process is "automatic" and the files holding the archived
records reside in the same folder on the fixed hard drive as the other
database records.
Which of your steps would you suggest I try first? I can only run the
archiving process after hours so I won’t have results of your suggestions
till later on this evening.
Again, thanks for your interest and if I haven’t given you enough
information or haven’t answered your questions thoroughly please let me know.

Hi,.
Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
From your description, I know that you receive "Delayed Write Failed" error
message when you write a large file to a server. If I am off-base, please
don't hesitate to let me know.
Please let me know the following to make the situation more clearly:
1. When copying a same file, do all the users or some of them have the
problem?
2. Where do you copy file, to a shared folder, a website or others?
3. What's the topology of your network?
4. Where is the share folder locating? Is that a USB disk?
I read the KB 321733, this problem occurs because the client redirector
does not calculate the SMB signature properly. The problem was corrected in
Windows XP Service Pack 2. I also searched the Microsoft website, there are
many KBs related to "Delayed Write Failed", but they are already included
in Windows XP SP2. Since you have already installed Windows XP SP2, I'd
like to give you other suggestion.
Step 1: Please make a clean boot, the problem may be caused by some third
party software on the Windows XP.
1. Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter.
2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
All third party Services.
3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items.
4. Click OK and choose Restart.
5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs.
6. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.
Step 2: The problem may be caused network hardware problems, please try
changing the network speed on the NICs. You may configure all the network
devices (NICs, routers, switches) to a hard-coded setting of 100Mbps/s,
rather than the default in Windows of "automatic". Note that not only the
NICs have to be set, but verify the switches and routers are also
configured for this setting. Please also try to connect the client
workstation directly to the Server and then copy a big file, will the same
issue reoccur?
Step 3: This problem occurs because, during a WebDAV connection, the
WinInet function does not break up the data into sufficiently small chunks.
As a result, the system cannot allocate a sufficiently large block of
kernel pool memory, and therefore the file-copy operation is unsuccessful.
To resolve the problem, you need to install hotfix on the SBS server.
Please contact CSS for the hotfix KB 818408.
For more information, please refer to:
"Windows - Delayed Write" error message and Event ID 14800 when you try to
copy a large file to a Web folder by using WebDAV
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818408/
Step 4: If all users have this problem, this behavior occurs when server
message block (SMB) signing is enabled and required on the domain
controller that is running Windows Server 2003. Please take the steps to
disable the SMB signing on the server:
1. Start-->Run-->Type ''''regedit'''' and press Enter.
2. Navigate to the following registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\Parameters
3. In the right panel, double-click ''''enablesecuritysignature''''. Set
the value data to ''''0''''
4. Navigate to the following registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanworkstation\Param
eters\
5. In the right panel, double-click ''''enablesecuritysignature''''. Set
the value data to ''''0''''
6. Open a command prompt, type ''''gpupdate /force'''' and press Enter.
If this issue still exists, please help me to collect the MPS Report, so
that I can perform further research on this particular issue. To collect
the MPS Report, please refer to the following steps:
1. Download MPSReport tool from below URL:

3. Please send the result file (CAB file) to me at v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
