Re: Backup finished with some errors

Sorry, I put NtBackup but I really used the SBS Wizard when I set up the
backup. This is what I see in the Event viewer:
Small Business Server Backup has started
Begin Operation
lsass (532) Shadow copy 2 freeze started Source ESENT Category:ShadowCopy
Event Id: 2001
wins (2716) Shadow copy 2 freeze started Source ESENT Category:ShadowCopy
Event Id: 2001
lsass (532) Shadow copy 2 freeze stopped Source ESENT Category:ShadowCopy
Event Id: 2003
wins (2716) Shadow copy 2 freeze stopped Source ESENT Category:ShadowCopy
Event Id: 2003
Begin Backup of 'C:' Verify: On Mode: Replace Type: Normal
End Backup of 'C:' 'Warnings or errors were encountered.' Verify: On Mode:
Replace Type: Normal
This events were between 11:30 pm and 11:50 pm (application events)
In the system events I don't see anything out of normal, only this about
Shadow copy but that's it.
The oldest shadow copy of volume C: was deleted to keep disk space usage for
shadow copies of volume C: below the user defined limit
We have only 400 MB of space on the C drive where the OS is but we have had
before less than that and we haven't had this problem.
Thank you for your help

Rossi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx says...
The files named are often open whether or not anyone is accessing the server.
These warnings may be due to a problem taking a Volume Shadow Copy snapshot.
Any VSS messages in the backup logs and/or in the Application or System Event
Logs at the time the backup is starting?
You say you have been backing up using NTBackup. Do you mean you are using
NTBackup directly as opposed to via the SBS Backup wizard? If so, does the
NTBackup command line include the /SNAP:on parameter? (This enables Volume
Shadow Copy.)

I've been using NtBackup for almost 2 years and never had this problem
before. It started last week. My data is backed up without problems but I got
the failed message in my report. This is a sample of what I got in the log
file:
Warning: Unable to open "C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\store.fcl" - skipped.
Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by
another process.
Warning: Unable to open "C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\tmp.edb" -
skipped. Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used
by another process
Warning: Unable to open "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$SBSMONITORING\Data\master.mdf" - skipped. Reason: The process
cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
Warning: Unable to open "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$SBSMONITORING\Data\mastlog.ldf" - skipped. Reason: The process
cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
Warning: Unable to open "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$SHAREPOINT\Data\master.mdf" - skipped. Reason: The process
cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
Warning: Unable to open "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$SHAREPOINT\Data\mastlog.ldf" - skipped. Reason: The process
cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
I rebooted the server thinking that maybe there was something in memory and
made sure all users log off from their systems, so I'm sure nobody had any
session open on the server. The backup runs M-F at 11:30 pm when nobody is
working, so I don't really understand what is going on. As I told you before
my data is backed up without problems but I concern about the message I got
and I'm not sure if it is backing about exchange DB and share point.
Does anybody have had this problem?
