RE: Event ID 1031 after SP1

Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that you make backup with Drive SnapShot
software from drivesnapshot.com. After upgrading to SBS 2003 SP1, you ran
the Drive SnapShot, the server hanged and you got Event ID 1031. If I am
off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I am sorry that since the problem occurs when you ran Drive Snap Shot,
please contact the software manufacture for more help. Thanks for
understanding.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

<Hi,
<
<Before I give up on Service Pack 1, I thought I would post my problem.
<
<I have 2 identical Dell PowerEdge 1800's which I swap over
<periodically to test backups, etc. using snapshot from
<drivesnapshot.com. I take full images from all drives nightly and can
<easily restore these on the offline server and switch live machines,
<no problems for last 2 years.
<
<I put SP1 on last Sunday following all procedures except I already had
<put Exchange SP2 so skipped the Ex SP1 update. Incidentally, Dell
<replaced faulty motherboard then RAID card on the current machine a
<few weeks ago. Now when I run drivesnapshot (called from a SQL Server
<job) the server hangs and I get event ID 1031 system "One of the
<System Attendant's task is blocked.
<Function: CMonitoringTask::Work" and some other errors.
<
<I have read up on this problem and tried all suggestions on web and
<narrowed this down to when my C Drive image is being taken. Exchange
<databases are on D Drive.
<
<Any help would be grateful, I am going to swap data to pre-SP1 machine
<tomorrow.
<
<Thanks,
<
