RE: DCOM Problem

Although the situation is not exactly the same I would to suggest the reading
of
"Windows Server 2003 Standard - DCOM Problems in General Discussion"
where Wavellan proposes a solution that worked fine for me.
Good luck.

Hi,

Thank you for posting here.

Do you install ISA on your SBS Server?

From the post, the GUID {0820D243-0B18-4B0A-88F0-D857F0C91E62} is related
ISA, this is a component of ISA SMTP filter. So I do not think this is a
Exchange issue. Could you please let me know if there is any anti-virus
software installed on the SBS server? We've seen some similar case
instances that the anti-virus software caused the VPS2.dll component
unregistered. Here, I would like to give you the following action plan to
see if the problem can be resolved:

1. Open ISA Management console, navigate to Extensions\Application Filters.
Disable SMTP Filter. Navigate to ''Monitoring''\''Services''. Restart the
Firewall service. Will the DCOM error problem be resolved?

2. Open a command prompt, run the following commands to re-register the
components:

cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server
regsvr32 smtpfadm.dll
regsvr32 VPS2.DLL

After doing this, go to ISA management console, restart the firewall
service. What's the result?

3. Also I suggest that you schedule an down time, temporarily disconnect
the server from the Internet, and check if the issue occurs. You may also
try doing a clean boot and see if the issue occurs. A Clean Boot will allow
us to isolate any device drivers or programs that are loading at startup
that may be causing a conflict with other device drivers or programs that
are installed in your computer.

A. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks)
and click OK.
B. Select "Selective Startup" and remove the check box for "Load Startup
Items".
C. On the "Services" tab, click Enable All.
D. Check "Hide all Microsoft Services", click Disable All and clear "Hide
all Microsoft Services".
E. Click the OK button and then Click Yes to restart your computer.

If this issue is resolved at this point, repeat the process. However, add
one check back each time to the list of name column until the issue
reappears.

Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,

Chace Zhang (MSFT)
