Re: Exchange not appearing in Add/Remove programs

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hi David,

Glad you (kind of) resolved it. I hope you have time to try the HP disk again, just in case it's reproduceable.

Now...! I have been using SBS since a beta of v.4, so am used to the odd SBS-quirk (or three!). However, this is bordering on the incredulous, since the problem appears to have been the key used at install or may have been that combined with the HP/Compaq SmartStart CD.

I manually installed the Exchange patches, KB912442 and KB916803 and the Exchange/updates entry appeared in Add/Remove Programs. However, Microsoft Update would still *not* offer patches needed for Exchange.

I then took another sbs2k3-R3 package from my stock, wiped the RAID array and re-installed from scratch. As a first step, I used the same DVD media as before, but just used the new key to install with. I tried to follow my previous install notes/steps explicitly, changing nothing. At the end of the install, I connected to Microsoft Update and the Exchange updates were listed.

Given time before delivering the server, I'll image the current install and try again with the old key.

David

Windows Update, or Microsoft Update? MU should detect Exchange.

Hopefully, some kind person can put me out of my misery.

The short version:
Basically I cannot get the Exchange entries to show up in Add & Remove Programs and because of this, none of the post Exch2k3SP2 patches appear to be installing - Windows update doesn't seem to detect Exchange as being installed.

I have an SBS 2003 R1, the only sign of Exchange shows up when I tick the 'show updates' box....

Thanks. Update tick-box is already ticked and still nothing there.

I'll try manually downloading and installing some Exchange patches that exist on other servers to check if that kicks it into action. Still doesn't explain why Windows Update won't see Exchange-2k3-Sp2 is installed, though.

David
