Correct. 2X 2003 Server Ent + 2x Exchange 200X. Still there's only one copy
of the information store on a shared disk.
You can actually build one in Virtual Machine using the trial editions of
the software.
Other products do 'snapshots' but IMHO your best investment for this scale
is building up the reliability of your SBS server.

Don't you have to have Enterprise Server OS and then Exchange Advanced
otr whatever the more expensive Exchange is? I choke and Server
Standard price.I have never priced the advanced cluster versions of
software.

If "user level" equates to "mailbox level", then you need clustered
servers
(or third party equivelance).
Exchange 2007 extends that with "Cluster Continuous Replication".

Not something really practical in the SBS scale of things.

I have Backup Mail server with DNS made easy. This is fine for an
Exchange
server not to miss mail, what I want is for redundancy at the user level

I've been doing this since and no one that I know of has done what you
are inquiring about....
You can start by reading here
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124972.aspx
If you post a link to Sean's post, I'll contact him and clarify what he
was referring to...and ask him for pointers to documentation
But I think all you really want is MX Backup, which is easy and cheap

Cost is not a concern, I have an Action pack subscription.
I want exactly what was stated in the OP.
If the main SBS2003 Sp1 server is down, the Windows Server Standard R2
,
which is also a DC & backup DNS, would short to medium term also
provide
exchange redundancy. This is what I assumes Sean was referring to by "
backup exchange server.

Perhaps the first question then is what would you hope to gain by
havng
the second Exchange Server.
You would need a second server license and a full blown Exchange
license, neither of which are cheap
If you have SBS 2003 R2 your cals would cover the CALs, if you do
not
have R2 you would Also need Exchange Cals for the second box
If you are just looking for a way to "hold mail" if SBS goes
down...there are many other cheaper options

no differently than you would in any domain but you cannot set up
a
front end/backend situation

Sure, SBS is required to be the root domain controller, the
primary
domain controller, and can't trust any other domains. But you can
have file and print servers, line of business application servers
and... get this, AND backup domain controllers, backup Exchange
Servers, ISA servers on the edge*, secondary SQL servers*.
How do I setup a Windows 2003 R2 member server to be a backup
exchange server to a SBS2003 SP1 sever.?
Thanks
