Yes, I also would probably remove Veritas(and throw the CD out the window).
Check the total size of all space used on the server, is the tape of
sufficient capacity to do a full backup? If so, run the SBS Backup Wizard
(SBS console, not backup program) and get a decent backup out of the box.

I'll go in and configure a standard MS backup for tonight until I can get
on site and sort this out. They've been changing tapes daily for a couple
of years now thinking they were covered.

Thanks, it's getting clearer now.
I checked this morning and is shows bottom right hand corner not
connected, but clicking on the network option just shows the two media
server options greyed out, the other option logon accounts on that
menu just crashes the program.
Also when starting the program I have on some occasions seen an error
regarding "not enough server storage is available to process this
command" simon
.
