I've had mixed results with that Help menu thing. Not sure whether it's
ISA, user rights, or something else, but I've never found it to work
reliably or consistently. It used to just check for bug fix types of
updates, not patches, and I'm not sure when that changed.
We have one of the full versions of Acrobat on most of our client PCs, so
what I do is to download all the updates into a share and then install them
over the network. Even if you do find updates from the Help menu, non-admin
users won't be able to install them anyway.
Acrobat has multiple patch versions - my share shows them conveniently
numbered 701, 702, 703, 705, 707, 708, 709 (not sure what happened with 4
and 6). They're not inclusive, so you need them all. Some are very large,
some require a reboot, and some have different versions for standard,
professional, and/or open license versions.
If you're just using Reader and it's one of the earlier builds, you might be
ahead of the game to just download and install the most current version,
which is 8.something. Usually the free download includes all the patches.

Adobe products and specifically Adobe Reader seem to have trouble updating
over the internet on an SBS network.
Apparently there is a vital 7.0.9 update out but if you have ealier
versions of Adobe Reader installed and go to Help to try to Update, you
just get the message 'No updates available.
Well, there definitely are - a laptop directly connected to the web
confirms.
Any ideas on how to allow Adobe updater to communicate properly with the
mother ship?
