Hello Customer,
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand that you can not join your
notebook into SBS domain via http://server-name/connectcomputer. If I have
misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:
Step 1: Ensure the notebook's OS is Windows XP professional. The Windows XP
home edition can not join domain.
Step 2: Ensure the DNS settings on notebook
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network
Connections.
3. Disable all the network connections that are not connected to a
network. To do this, right-click the network connection, and then click
Disable.
4. Right-click the network connection that is connected to your Windows
Small Business Server internal network, and then click Properties.
5. Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
6. Use of the following methods:
a. To configure the client computer to obtain DNS server information from
the Windows Small Business Server-based computer, click Obtain DNS server
address automatically.
b. To specify your Windows Small Business Server-based computer as the DNS
server, click Use the following DNS server addresses, and then type the IP
address of your Windows Small Business Server-based computer in the
Preferred DNS server box.
7. Click OK two times.
8. Click Start, click Run, type cmd , and then click OK.
9. Type ipconfig /flushdns , and then press ENTER.
10. Type ipconfig /registerdns , and then press ENTER.
11. Visit the http:// SmallBusinessServerName /ConnectComputer Web site to
connect to the Windows Small Business Server network.
Step 3: Some 3rd-party may related to this issue. Please do a clean boot on
your notebook.
To clean boot the problematic computer, please use the steps below:
a. Click Start, click Run, and then in the Open box, type "MSCONFIG"
(without the quotation marks). Click OK.
b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click to select
the Selective Startup button.
c. Click to clear the check mark from the "Load startup items" below
Selective Startup.
d. Click the Services tab, click to check the "Hide All Microsoft Services"
box, and remove all the check marks from the remained Non-Microsoft
Services. Please note that the Exchange services could be marked as
non-Microsoft. Please do not disable those services.
e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.
f. After restarting, please try to join domain again.
g. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.
Step 4: Please install last service pack and update on your notebook and
SBS server. Meanwhile, I suggest you install last Antivirus software on
notebook and SBS, and then do a full scan on them.
If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:
1. Does this issue only happen on this notebook? How about other clients?
2. Can you join notebook into the SBS domain manually (My computer ->
properties -> Computer Name tap -> Change)?
3. Gather MPS report on SBS and notebook
a. Download MPSreport_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe on the server box.
c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\
e. Send the .cab file directly to my mailbox: v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hi.
|
| I have a NEW Dell Notebook (XPS M1710) Running XP SP2. I was having
problems
| connecting it to the SBS Domain Yesterday so I formatted the Drive today
and
| started from Scratch. I am having the same problems today.
|
| The problem is that after I run the initial setup wizard
| http://server-name/connectcomputer and complete it, the client reboots as
| normal with the SBS user account.
|
| However at bootup, the computer offers this error message before anything
| else runs...
|
| C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Client\sbsmig.exe
| Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was
complete
|
| I found some information on the web at this address...
|
http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Windows/Microsoft.public.windows.server.
sbs/2004-06/4329.html
|
| But it does seem to offer a definite solution.
|
| Where do I go from here?
