Re: USR Courier not suitable for SBS2003 because not on HCL

Hi Dave,

The reason I posed the question is because Microsoft are refusing to assist
with a SBSfax problem because the server in question has a pair of USR
Couriers attached. These, according to them, are not suitable for SBSfax
because of not being on the HCL. However they have also spectacularly
refused to recomend any external modems that are on the HCL. See my recent
message on that other thread here
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs/msg/068c29bb61815319.

This is obviously a serious issue that needs escalating, the SBS community
needs to know if Microsoft are going to make SBS incompatible with USR
Couriers, and if so they need to recomend a suitable alternative external
fax modem.

I'm not Brandy or Crina, but IMO the HCL has turned into a marketing tool.
In the NT4 days when a lot of hardware didn't work with NT, it made sense
to only buy hardware included on the HCL. Now, you're lucky if you can
find it.

IMO the people to ask whether the Couriers still work on WS03 is the
manufacturer - they're the ones who are going to support them or not, as
the case may be.

Hi Brandy/Crina,

Would either of you care to lend a hand here or at least offer a comment?

Should we all throw away our USR Couriers because they are not on the
Win2003 HCL?

Your opinions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick
