Update Services errors

I'm new to SBS R2, and new to WSUS. Please help me understand how this
is supposed to work in SBS R2.
I set up a new SBS R2 box. After a week or so, I checked the Update
Services (Server Management>Standard Management>Update Services).
There were no errors showing under "Installation Errors" but the Event
Log was showing Windows Server Update Services Synchronization Error.
(Content file download failed. Reason: The parameter is incorrect...
Event ID 364)
In the Update Services>Installation Status, two items show Completed,
and 38 items show Scheduled. They've showed this way now for weeks.
Why haven't these been installed?
In digging around for the Event ID 364, I ended up going to
http://<servername>:8530/wsusadmin to try to set the proxy password,
and see if there were any other settings that needed to change. Of
course, that broke the Server Management>Standard Management>Update
Services functionality.
I reversed all the changes I could remember, but still SBS Update
Services shows: "Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) Update
Services is not running because it automatically turns off if you
customize Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)."
It looks like I'm going to have to reinstall R2 to get this working
again.
What am I doing wrong here? I've checked the permissions on the drive/
folder where the updates are set to download. Those are set correctly.
But for some reason, updates just aren't being sent to the server or
the clients.
The clients are all turned off when the server updates (2:45am), would
that make a difference?
Is there somewhere you can point me for a good guide on how to setup/
use SBS Update Services? And what is the difference in SBS Update
Services, and WSUS that I used at http://<servername>:8530/wsusadmin?
Thanks so much!
Chester
