Per Microsoft's own web site, "The HCLs are no longer maintained as a
comprehensive reference." They have been replaced by the Windows Catalogs

I notice that Robert completely ignored my question as to why Crina Li and
Brandy Nee keep recommending the same non-HCL modem that you already have as
the one to use if you have fax problems.

You are also ignoring the fact that the OP's modems worked perfectly before
he ran SFC.

I wish you folks would make up your minds as to whether or not you want to
continue recommending the Courier V.Everything external modem.

Good luck with your problem. My recommendation still is to go with
Brooktrout. As much as it hurts, **cut your losses** and put it behind you
(see my other threads previously mentioned). Per their part number guide
http://www.cantata.com/products/part_no._guide/, you can use a low-end
TruFax board, or their high-end TR1034 board. You have two lines, so the
2-port TruFax should do well. In my testing, it fixed all my problems. Yes,
it is expensive, but how much more time are you willing to spend on
something that perhaps NO modem may be able to fix? I told my client I would
sell the Brooktrout to them for my cost and install it for no charge, and
they are happy with that. All I lost was about 30 hours of time testing
various modems. Never again!

I think this is the one you should consider, but call them to make sure.

***As long as you have the fax service installed properly*** and it answers
calls or tries to send, I think the Brooktrout will help you. You can always
call them and ask if they can loan you a board for testing purposes (see my
threads again).

Personally, I will not use a modem again after the experiences I have had.
Clients can either pop for a Brooktrout, or they can stick with their manual
fax machine.

there ANY? I cannot even find a Win2003 HCL let alone an SBS2003 one!

Best I can find is a Win2K HCL but that only seems to contain internal
modems, I could not find any External ones. Could you please tell me what
_External_ modems are compatible with SBS2003, according to your newsgroup
