change it in the sbs wizards?
What makes you ask?
If you're talking about inbound mail, you'd do this only if you had
a third party redirecting mail to you on that port....otherwise,
you'd get no mail. For outbound mail, you'd do this only if you were
sending all your outbound Internet mail to a smarthost that uses
that port (rather, that insists that you do).
changed the dynamic ip as well as a few other things. I called the
webhost company (who I also smarthost through) to test my settings.
The new modem was set with port 25 blocked, my webhost said "just
change smpt port from 25 to 587". Rather than change my server I call
the isp who opened 25 so all is well.
So I guess I ask the question incase I run into this situation again
and need to use 587 or change all sbs clients to 587 and close smtp
25 for security.
Changing the *clients* won't matter - you'd need to have all your inbound
mail 'redirected' to that port by a third party. This isn't about
security....it's about ISP policy. If it's outbound mail, use a smarthost
who lets you send on an alternate port.
