RE: can't Remote Assistance when connected with VPN

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that your Remote Assistance
will drop when you setup VPN connection. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:

Step 1: You have to rerun the CEICW to make sure your SBS 2003 server have
right network configuration. Go through the follow KB and Rerun CEICW again
carefully.

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us

Step 2: I suggest we try to manually create a VPN connection on the remote
client through the following KB article:

How to configure a VPN connection to your corporate network in Windows XP
Professional
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=305550

Then we can try following steps:

Not using the remote gateway on the client, to do so:
On the remote client

1). Double-click My Computer, and then click the Network and Dial-up
Connections link.

2). Right-click the VPN connection that you want to change, and then click
Properties.

3). Click the Networking tab, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the
'Components checked are used by this connection' list, and then click
Properties.

4). Click Advanced, and then click to clear the Use default gateway on
remote network check box.

Then test this issue again.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:

1. Does this problem happen on all VPN clients?

2. Gather outcome of command "ipconfig /all" on VPN client and SBS server
when VPN connection setup, then send the result to me at
v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

3. Gather outcome of command "route print" on VPN client and SBS server
when VPN connection setup, then send the result to me at
v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

4. Do you install ISA server on your SBS?

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
