Re: Setting folder permissions

Hi Dave:

We are all using Exchange Server mailboxes (I was the only one using PST's -
oops .. I had a heck of a time getting my profile to migrate over, I'm not
surprised their are issues!).

Yes, when I try to schedule an appointment, I can choose her from the
address book, but her schedule is crosshatched out at and the line says "no
information available."

So, I'm still stuck on this point.

Right, you can import the items. However, Lanwench strongly recommends
against importing this way, and she knows a lot more about Exchange/Outlook
than I do. I've done it successfully but I'm sure there's a method to her
madness.

Cheryl - just view the Outlook Folder List (it's the folder icon at the
bottom of the Outlook navigation pane). Click on the subfolder of your
calendar folder. Click View -> Arrange by -> Current View -> Events, which
will put the appointments in that folder into a list view. Now, drag them
from the list view in the right pane onto the regular Calendar folder in the
folder list. That will move them from the subfolder to the main calendar.
When you're finished, you can delete the now-empty subfolder.

Have another user make the changes you've made, in particular by switching
delivery from a PST to the Exchange Server mailbox. Then see if you can use
a meeting request as expected. I'm not sure this will work, but no calendar
sharing or scheduling features work with PSTs, so hopefully that'll solve
it. What happens if you create a new appointment, then on the Scheduling
tab, click Add Others at the bottom of the screen. Can you choose the other
user from the address book?

You want everyone in your domain to be using the server mailboxes rather
than PSTs. It allows central management, backup, and virus scanning, among
other things. And, consider deleting or at least closing those PST files
(close from the r-click menu in Outlook, and make sure you do that before
you delete any). You don't want yourself or others using the PSTs
accidentally when intending to use mailbox folders.

I think you best solution would have been to just import that pst file into
your new Echange profile. that way all folders, caledars and contacts in
that pst file would have come over. You can still do this just make sure
you select to overwrite duplicates.

Hi Dave:

Okay.. I've been working this problem.

Here's where I am now!

I copied all the items in my PST inbox to the Mailbox Inbox and moved all
the subfolders for inbox and contacts (I use them alot for organization).
However, when I copied my calendar, it created a subcalendar underneath
the
main calendar which is not what I wanted, but I don't know how to fix
that. I
tried just dragging the subcalendar to the main calendar but it only
created
a copy with Calendar1 as the name. So! I still need help with that.

On both workstations, I 've gone into the calendars and contacts and
"shared" them. So, from my workstation now, when I go to file>open>other
user's folder, I can open the other workstations calendar. BUT! When I
go
to my calendar and create a new appointment, then click on the
"scheduling"
tab, then her name, the line next to her name says "no information
available."

So close, yet so far!!! By the way, when I click on "add others" on the
bottom left of the scheduling tab, "add public folder" is grayed out.
Does
that mean anything to my issue?

Help, still! Thanks!

Hi Cheryl. Some answers and some follow-up questions.

1. Look on the SBS and go to Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft
Exchange
Server and click System Manager. See if ESM (Exchange System Manager)
opens
normally. If so, you've got it.

2. In order to access these settings, you need to be storing Exchange
items
(e-mails, calendar appointments, etc.) in your Exchange Server mailbox.
From what you're describing, it sounds like you are storing them in an
Outlook PST file on the local computer. On your desktop PC, please go
to
Control Panel -> Mail and click E-Mail Accounts -> View or change
existing
e-mail accounts -> Next. Do you see Microsoft Exchange Server listed?
Under the Deliver new mail.... dropdown, does it show delivery to a PST
or
to your mailbox in the format "Mailbox - Username?"

The logical question 3 would be, if the items are in fact in the PST but
I
need them in the Mailbox, what now? The short answer is to switch the
default delivery location to the mailbox and restart Outlook. Then,
using
the Outlook folder list, drag-and-drop the items from the PST file to
the
appropriate folders in the Mailbox. When you're finished, r-click the
top
level of the PST in the Outlook Folder List and choose Close.

If you still have questions after checking these settings, please post
back
with your questions, plus the answer to my two questions (last two
sentences
of my response to 2.). Welcome to SBS!

The main reason we began the process of installing SBS2k3, was so we
could
share calendars and contacts -- but I can't make that make happen!
So...
help! Warning VERY novice in SBS2k3 .. way green!

We are now hosting our SMTP email on our server and I *think* I
installed
the exchange server.

So, Stupid Question #1, how do I know for sure that I in fact have the
exchange server installed? (I went through the wizards and our emails
are
all coming through and in the CEICW I set it for exchange server,
but.....?)

Stupid Question #2, I've clicked on File>folder>Folder properties in
calendar, but I don't have a Permissions tab and on the
"Administration"
tab,
the "this folder is available to" section is grayed out...

I've only used an exchange server in Outlook operating under Citrix at
my
old company and I've set permissions in that scenario before but this
doesn't
look familiar -- How do I do that with this?

I think I have a Stupid Question #3, but I cant remember it! If you
can
think of a naturally occurring SQ#3 that I've forgotten, plus comment
with
both it and its answer!

Thanks!!!
