RE: Removing assigned apps

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you want to cancel the
installation prompt about delivery software by Assign Application wizard.
If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I would like to suggest that you try the following
method to cancel the installation:

1. On the SBS server, open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\ClientSetup\Clients\response\<clientcomputer>.

2. Open the apps.dat with Notepad. This is actually an XML file.

3. You will find multiple app id "{GUID}", in the <name>¡</name> field,
you can find the application name. Find the app ID you want to cancel, then
note down the value ID and the associated attribute "refcount" of it.

Note. To simplify this task, you could rename the apps.dat to apps.xml and
open it in IE. It will be displayed in good format.

4. On the Windows XP client, click Start, click Run, type "regedit" and
click OK.

5. Locate the registry key

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\ClientSetup, please confirm the
application {GUID} in the right pane with the same ID. You will find the
key should have the smaller value than refconut associated with that {GUID}
we found in Step #3

6. Then try to modify the value same or bigger than the refacount value in
step #3.

Note: You can also modify the apps.dat the refacount value which you want
to cancel smaller than the value in the client.

By default, we will have following GUID

{18CBE5D6-1185-4ac5-B81A-6EB2B7D8FFE6}
{A792B130-2B57-44e8-87FB-0B5C3BC2EDE7}
{CE13ED59-F99E-486d-9712-3FA02E41DBEC}
{F28193FE-08F8-4eae-B714-D425838F46FE}

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hey,
|
| We are running SBS 2003 and XP SP2 clients. We accidentally assigned some
| apps to a client PC through the 'assign apps' wizard, but we want to
cancel
| it.
|
| The user gets prompted to 'install' or 'postpone' each time they log on.
|
| Do we have to follow through with the app install, or can it be cancelled?
|
| Thanks
