Re: WM5 can not sync to exchange

Hi Terence,
After uninstalling ISA 2004 I attempted to run the ECICW and still
encountered an error on the email configuration step.
I followed your steps to recreate the exchange-oma folder, after which the
ECICW ran successfully.
I then reinstalled ISA 2004 and the ECICW ran successfully during the
installation as well.
Windows Update installed ISA 2004 SP2.
I reffered to your initial response to be sure the proper authentication
methods were enabled on each virtual directory.
CEICW runs smoothly now.
The mobile device still fails to sync. A new error 85002003 is reported, and
nothing is logged in the activesync log.
OMA no longer works. I receive an internal server error and events are logs
in both the system and application event log.
I have emailed you my IIS logs, device activesync logs, IIS metabase, and
also the events from my event log.
Thank you for all you help with this issue,

Hello John,
Thank you for your email.
From the CEICW log, I find error:
*** Getting Sbs web listener certificate hash returned ERROR 8007007a
For this error, I suggest you to reinstall ISA to resolve it:
1. Uninstall the ISA from the add/remove program
2. Reboot the server.
3. Install the ISA again from the SBS CD
4. Rerun the CEICW through the following KB:
How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us
If you can success run CEICW, the Exchange-oma folder will be created
automatic.
If we still can not run CEICW success, we have to create Exchange-oma
folder manually:
1. Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
2. Locate the Exchange virtual directory. The default location is the
following:
Web Sites\Default Web Site\Exchange
3. Right-click the Exchange virtual directory, click All Tasks, and then
click Save Configuration to a File.
4. In the File name box, type a name. For example, type ExchangeVDir.
Click
OK.
5. Right-click the root of this Web site. Typically, this is Default Web
Site. Click New, and then click Virtual Directory (from file).
6. In the Import Configuration dialog box, click Browse, locate the file
that you created in step 4, click Open, and then click Read File.
7. Under Select a configuration to import , click Exchange, and then click
OK.
A dialog box will appear that states that the "virtual directory already
exists."
8. In the Alias box, type a name for the new virtual directory that you
want Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access to use. For example,
type exchange-oma. Click OK.
9. Right-click the new virtual directory. In this example, click
exchange-oma. Click Properties.
10. Click the Directory Security tab.
11. Under Authentication and access control, click Edit.
12. Make sure that only the following authentication methods are enabled,
and then click OK:
Integrated Windows authentication
Basic authentication
13. Under IP address and domain name restrictions, click Edit.
14. Click Denied access, click Add, click Single computer, type the IP
address of the server that you are configuring, and then click OK.
15. Under Secure communications, click Edit. Make sure that Require secure
channel (SSL) is not enabled, and then click OK.
16. Click OK, and then close the IIS Manager.
17. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
18. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MasSync\Parameters
19. Right-click Parameters, click to New, and then click String Value.
20. Type ExchangeVDir, and then press ENTER. Right-click ExchangeVDir, and
then click Modify.
NoteExchangeVDir is case-sensitive. If you do not type ExchangeVDir
exactly
as it appears in this article, ActiveSync does not find the key when it
locates the exchange-oma folder.
21. In the Value data box, type the name of the new virtual directory that
you created in step 8. For example, type exchange-oma. Click OK.
22. Quit Registry Editor.
23. Restart the IIS Admin service. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
b. In the list of services, right-click IIS Admin service, and then click
Restart.
For detail info, please go through the following KB:
Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access errors occur when SSL or
forms-based authentication is required for Exchange Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=817379
If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:
1. Gather CEICW log again if it still fail
2. Gather IIS log and IIS metabase again
Hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hello John,
|
| Thank you for kind update.
|
| Please send email to my work mailbox: v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with
subject
| of this post's title.
|
| Note: please gather IIS metabase via the tool and send it to me, it is
| important for troubleshooting this issue.
|
| Synchronizing your Pocket PC with Outlook (client sync) or Exchange
server
| directly (server sync): SBS 2003 supports ActiveSync via a client, or
| Server ActiveSync if you have remote connectivity to the server via the
| PDA. For example, you could use a Pocket PC Phone Edition 2003 device,
or
| SmartPhone to use Server ActiveSync to sync your Inbox, Calendar, and/or
| Contacts.
|
| If you are using client ActiveSync, as this feature is closely related
to
| the Pocket PC model you are using and the manufacturer's design, please
| contact the Pocket PC provider or the Microsoft public Pocket PC
newsgroup
| for assistance. The public newsgroups are:
|
| news://news.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.pocketpc
| news://news.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync
|
| This is in order to make sure that this issue is efficiently addressed.
| Thank you for your understanding.
|
| Meanwhile, the client host machine must be configured using the SBS Set
Up
| Computer Wizard. During the Set Up Computer Wizard, the option to
install
| ActiveSync 3.7 must be configured as well. If this is pushed to the
client
| machine, then there will be an option in the Start Menu called Mobile
| Device Configuration. Then, it should be able to provision your phone or
| PPC (including installing the certificat) so that the Server ActiveSync
| works.
|
| Please also let me know some more info:
|
| 1. Try to use another mobile device to do ActiveSync, does it work?
|
| 2. Does the account admin can access activeSync?
|
| 3. Does the new account can access OMA?
|
| Hope this helps. Please let me know the results so that I can provide
| further assistance on this problem. I am looking forward to your reply.
|
| Thanks and have a nice day!
