Update SBS Without Disturbing Existing Network

At the moment we are running Win2k server with workgroups.
Modem > Router > Switch > Desktops and Server
The router is providing DHCP to the desktops/Server
I hope to have our new box with SBS R2 up and running by
this weekend. I'd like to provide some internet access to the
SBS box so I can at least run some windows updates today.
But I don't want to upset any existing network configuration
in the process.
I presume that if I plug the SBS box into the router to gain
internet access the DHCP service (of SBS) will not try and
assign IP's to the machines plugged into the switch since the
router is currently acting as DHCP. Is that correct?
I suppose my main question is: If I plug the SBS into the
router for internet access, will that upset any of the currently
functioning Win2k network?
.
