Everything you are trying to do will work as I run my whole business
from my home and have the same basic set up. I have a router that
updates my dyndns settings, I have set all the MX records for mine and
my wifes company to the dyndns setting (mail.mydomain.com to
myserver.dyndns.org) and everything works fine. Set your certificate
name to mail.mydomain.com and the use
http://mail....mydomain...com/exchange for straight OWA access, or
http://mail....mydomain...com/remote for RWW access (they can also
enter OWA from the main menu in RWW as well.) I route all email
through verizon's servers via Smart Host with only a few issues.

443 should get you into RWW and allow you to view mail with Outlook Web
Access. 4125 will allow you to connect to a Workstation on the SBS LAN once
you have made the connection through RWW and you have made the required
settings to allow users to connect to Workstations. Once you get it
configured you will love how it works and the convenience of Remote Access.

Thanks!
after I sent the post I found something that told me to open port 443
(which
I did - and it didn't help) but I didn't open 4125 -- I will try that when
I
go in tomorrow morning.
I appreciated the tip on how to get my credentials for the stmp
authentication into exchange -- I will follow up with than and/or the
actual
ip address and see if that remedies my problem.
About the update client utility -- the linksys router I am using has a
built
in updater so it automatically logs into dyndns.org and keeps the ip
updated.
A nice feature in alot of the new routers if you ask me -- I have always
been an advocate of the less extraneous software (like a dnsupdater) the
better.
I appreciate the link to the setup notes and I will try your
recommendations
and report back! Thanks again Merv for your prompt post.

Try using a smarthost to send outbound mail from your SBS server.
With Smarthost configuration, for 'smtpauth.earthlink.net' in the
SmallBusiness SMTP Connector, you may have better luck using the
Earthlink
SMTP server IP address in brackets instead:
[207.69.189.207]
In the router, you need to forward some ports to your SBS NIC:
RWW: uses port 443 and 4125 (OWA also uses port 443)
I also trust you have an update client utility installed on the server or
on
a workstation that is up 24/7 that polls your dynamic WAN IP address and
reports it back to the DnyDNS nameservers.

These may be basic questions but i am stumped...
I am setting up SBS 2003 R2 for a non profit organization with 3 users
that
need/want to be able to use RWW and VPN to get to their server because
2
of
them travel a great deal.
I have a one nic SBS HP Proliant box with a Linksys WVRS4400N router.
We
have Earthlink basic consumer DSL with dynamic IP. For email we have
both
earthlink.net addresses and email through our hosted domain (web hosted
by
earthlink) name@xxxxxxxxxxxx I am using DYNDNS to get a name for our
dynamic
address and have that input directly into the router (name.dyndns.org).
I
ran the connect to internet wizard and setup the ip address and dns
settings,
what applications I want to use on the rww and set the certificate to
the
name.dyndns.org and smtp to smtpauth.earthlink.net (but i know this
won't
work because there is no place to enter a password for an account to
pass
the
email through on) and I set up the pop3 connector to get mail. I also
ran
the Remote Access wizard and set up for remote access via VPN.
I can hit the internet from the server and a client box. I can get
into exchange and delivered to the right person's mailbox, but I can't
send
email nor can I access the remote web workplace. I haven't even tried
the
VPN seeing how this is going... lol...
I know I must be missing some obvious things.
I called earthlink and they do not have any idea what to do with a
consumer
dsl account and exchange settings so I am stumped on the smtp.
And I cannot hit the server from the internet using
https://name.dyndns.org/remote
Do I have to open up ports in the router for RWW and OWA?
I have tried scouring the documentation that comes with the charity
license
of SBS but I haven't managed to find anything.
Any and all help would be appreciated! : ) Thanks in advance.
