basically, no, and yes. Sorry :-)
This is not an 'SBS' issue. It is pure IIS, but impacted by the type of
company attracted to SBS.
There is no current exploit of IIS (properly configured, patched) which
makes hosting web pages a bad idea, IIS is designed to do just this thing.
The future scares us a little, what exploit will be discovered?
The impact scares us more, should IIS be compromised we can no longer trust
our primary network resource (SBS).
3rd party components scare us. Do you _-really-_ trust that web developer to
thoroughly test his code and 'borrowed' components to ensure security is
maintained?
Cost concerns us.
There is a cost to maintain the server.
There is a cost to update the server, everyone has to get out while I
restart it.
There is a cost getting a faster internet connection so that the impact of
people browsing the website allows normal performance for people inside the
network browsing external resources.
3rd party hosting is very inexpensive.
Just a few days ago I realised another cost related thing (which I knew all
along, just never used it in this argument). My WWW host acts as backup MX
and zone host for my domain. If I ask them to do just these two things they
charge me exactly the same monthly fee they would for hosting WWW, one or
the other is free.

SORRY FOR THE MISSPELLS......
I have read over and over again that it is a very bad idea to have SBS
full
access from the internet.
What is I want to create a website in t IIS intended for public internet
access? Can this website can be configure safely withour rislking
securinty
of the network?
