The default document size limit is 50MB. This can be increased.
As far as I know, the number of documents is limited only by the maximum
size of the Sharepoint database.
Currently out site is maintained by the MSDE and not the full SQL engine.
Are there any differences if the database is upgraded to SQL?
Out of the box, Sharepoint on SBS uses WMSDE which increases some of the
MSDE restrictions, notably the 2GB maximum DB size. The main
improvement you get by upgrading to full SQL Server is support for full-
text search.
