RE: 2nd Branch Server and Laptop configuration suggestion

Hello Edhy,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you want to know whether
configure the branch offices as the same domain name of main office. If I
have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on your situation and my research, I suggest:

1. Setup the VPN connections between main office and branch offices. You
can setup VPN connection by your edge firewalls or routes on each office.

2. Join the branch offices' servers to main office SBS domain
(mainoffice.local) as additional servers

Note: please ensure the offices' servers are not SBS server (I suggest use
Windows server 2003), we can not place more than one SBS server in one
domain.

The following conditions must be true after you install the SBS 2003
computer

The new SBS 2003 computer must be a domain controller that is installed on
the root of the domain.
The new SBS 2003 computer must hold all the Flexible Single Master
Operation (FSMO) roles.
The new SBS 2003 computer must be a global catalog server and must be the
licensing server.
There must not be any existing domain trusts or child domains.
Only one SBS server can exist on the domain. If SBS 2003 is installed, no
other SBS 2003 or 2000 server can be installed on the same domain.

3. Then the mobile laptop connects to the domain network via the wireless
access point in main office. At this time, the laptop can access all share
folders and printers on main office and each branch office.

Meanwhile, when the mobile laptop setup connection with main office via the
wireless access point, it can connect RDP on the whole network.

Hope info above will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hi all,
| I have the following scenario with SBS2005R2:
| a.. I Have one Main Office with SBS and Exchange setup with the
following domain like: MainOffice.Local and a wireless access point.
| b.. Customer is now opening 2 new branch offices and a Laptop with its
own mobile broadband connection.
| The laptop should be able to while not around the offices to connect via
Remote Desktop (which I have done) but also when at any of the office been
able to use the SBS printers and shares.
| In order to allow the laptop to use the shares in each office (via the
wireless access point) should I configure the 2nd and 3rd server with the
same domain name?
| So far these servers will not be used with VPN with each other, but that
may be a possibility in the future.
| Thanks.
