And you have verified the share security and NTFS permissions of the folder
right? This is a shared folder correct? The proper run command is
\\servername\sharename\filename.

1st - when I typed \\file server name\file server name - it can't find it.
Nor can it find the domain server.
2nd - Same as others, all have by pass proxy checked

I'm sorry,
Like I said there might be two un-related issues?
1st - Users have full rights to a network file and can no longer make
changes to it. Nothing has been changed on the administration side.
Nothing has changed and you verified the share security and NTFS folder
permissions? What happens when they type in the RUN menu
\\servername\sharename?
2nd - Some users are getting this proxy box, occassionally. Sometimes
it
goes away sometimes they have to keep hitting okay to make it go away.
Compare internet LAN settings with two different workstations. Some may
be
checked to bypass proxy server for local addresses.

So when they browse to that share via Network Places they get this
http
proxy error? Can they type in the RUN menu \\sername\sharename and get
there?

A couple of the users need to modify this file from time to time.
They
browse to it through the network, not using IE.
The folder is shared with everyone, it is needed for AutoCAD to run
the
menu
we have set up.

You may want to include a few more details here and explain why
your
users
are trying access your file server using IE? Perhaps post the
security
permissions to that folder and file. Is the folder "shared"?

I am running SBS 2003, ISA 2000; Client machines are running XP
Pro.
My
file server is running 2003 Server.
Problem, I have a file on the file server that several users have
full
rights to. They have always been able to modify, change, edit
whatever
with
this file. However lately they cannot. I haven't changed
anything.
I
didn't create anything special for them to do this. I just went
into
My
Computer and browsed to the location and gave them rights there.
Now several of the clients are getting this message periodically;
It's a bot that says
Please enter password for HTTP proxy
Your HTTP proxy requires user authentication. Please enter the
appropriate
user name and password.
Proxy address - has my server name and 8080 in it
User name - what ever user it appears on
Password -
I click okay and it goes away for a while then will pop back up.
I don't know if these are two separate issues or the same?
Nothing has changed except for MS updates.
