I'm not sure I completely understand your first sentence.
I've assigned a static IP for the internal NIC (192.168.16.2)
and am using that same IP for the preferred DNS.
As I'm sure you can tell, I'm slighty confused about
the whole IP/DNS deal.

SBS is much happier with a static IP and therefore a static pointed IP
for
DNS which is the internal NIC IP.
How is it getting that internal NIC address for the DNS with a DHCPsetting?
