RE: Exchange/ActiveSync error

Hello Ashley,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you get error 0x85010004
when you access Sync via Windows Mobile V5.0 with SBS 2003. If I have
misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Yes, you are right, the document you find of the following is properly:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;919864&sd=rss&spid=1
773

To get the hotfix of the dll file, please contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product
Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs,
visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support
(http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support)

If the issue persists after you install the hotfix, I suggest we try the
following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:

1. To make sure your SBS 2003 server have right network configuration. Go
through the follow KB and Rerun CEICW again carefully.

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us

Note: this wizard will ensure the OMA and Sync publish correct to Internet.

2. Run iisreset in command line to Reset IIS

And I suggest you check the authentication method via the following list:

Default Web Site : Enable Anonymous Access

Integrated Windows Authentication

Exadmin : Integrated Windows Authentication

Exchange : Basic Authentication

Exchange-oma : Integrated Windows Authentication

Basic Authentication

Exchweb : Enable Anonymous Access

OMA : Basic Authentication

Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync : Basic Authentication

Public : Integrated Windows Authentication

Basic Authentication

Remote : Enable Anonymous Access

Integrated Windows Authentication

Relation info:

Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access errors occur when SSL or
forms-based authentication is required for Exchange Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=817379

If the issue persists, please go to step 3:

3. Removed "Force SSL" on the Default Web Site.

a. Please open IIS manager console, navigate to Web Sites->Default Web Site

b. Right-click Default Web Site, select properties

c. Click Directory Security tap, Under Secure communications, click Edit.

d . Click to clear the Require secure channel (SSL) check box, and then
click OK two times.

Please understand that our newsgroup is an issue based service, meaning we
usually respond to one question/issue per post. This will lessen the
confusion for both of us, as well as ensure that our results are accurate
and not a result of a test for a different question. Therefore, I will work
with you on the first question in this post (the error message issue).
Regarding the additional questions, I suggest you create a new post for
getting further assistance. If you still like to work here, I will follow
them after we resolved the first question.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:

1. Try to create a new account and test Activesync. Is it work?

2. Does OMA work fine?

3. Please try a test account for me, then send me the username and password
to me, and let me know the FQDN of your SBS server.

4. Gather IIS log:

a. Open IIS snap-in.

b. Right click Default Web Site and click Properties.

c. Uncheck the "Enable Logging" box and click Apply.

d. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder and move all files to a
backup location.

e. Check "Enable Logging" box and click OK.

f. Run IISReset command.

g. Reproduce the problem and send the log file in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder to me for research.

5. Gather IIS Metabase:

1) Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en

2) Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)

3) Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".

4) Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.

5) Send the file and the password to v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

6. Please enable the activesync log on the PDA and then get the log file
and send to me.

Steps to enable logging on the device:

A. Click Start, ActiveSync, Tools, Options, Server, Advanced.
B. Minimize the keyboard.
C. Change the logging level to Brief or Verbose.
D. Close the Options dialog.

Setting the logging level to brief logs the headers whereas setting it to
verbose logs sync requests and responses in addition to the headers. The
log is saved in text format in the Windows\ActiveSync folder, for example
windows\ActiveSync\serverlog0.

The log file gets cleared at the beginning of a sync session. It is
important to rename the file before you start another sync. If you have
configured automatic synchronization, it is especially important to rename
this file to prevent it from being overwritten.

Steps to retrieve the log file:

A. Sync till the point of failure.
B. Disconnect the device. This is to prevent the log file from getting
overwritten by the next automatic sync.
C. Click on Start, Programs, File Explorer.
D. In File Explorer, browse to the My Device\Windows\ActiveSync folder
E. Tap and hold on the file "ServerLog0" and rename it to some other name
(for example, "Log0").
F. Connect to the desktop.
G. In the desktop ActiveSync program, choose Explore, browse to the
ActiveSync folder, copy the Log file to a folder on the desktop.
H. Turn the logging back to Brief or None.

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------
| Hi there - I am trying to sync a client's i-mate JAZJAM (Windows Mobile
V5.0) with his SBS 2003 (Standard)
| Have followed the guide "Deploying Windows Mobile 5.0 with Windows Small
Business Server 2003" from Microsoft, the error I am now receiving upon
attempting "over-the-air" synchronizing is:
| "Result:
| Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to
synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server
administrator."
| The actual error (support) code is 0x85010004.
| Other data:
| a.. The server address in ActiveSynce on the device is the FQDN i.e.
mail.xxxxxx.com (not mail.xxxxxx.com\exchange)
| b.. I have created a self-signed certificate on the SBS that appears
corrrectly as a root certificate on the device
| c.. The user is a member of the "Mobile Users" group on the SBS
| d.. I do not have the "Enforce password on device" option checked in
Mobile Device Properties>Device Security Settings in Exchange System
Manager
| e.. OWA works perfectly
| After googling this issue,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;919864&sd=rss&spid=1
773,
| it appears I may need a new version of massync.dll (6.5.7651.30). Has
anyone had this issue and may have additional helpful information, and/or,
does anyone know where I might get hold of this file?
| Also, a couple of additional (albeit stupid) questions if I may:
| a.. The client's phone has come with Outlook 2002 on the driver/manual
disc. Is it necessary to install this?
| b.. In the aforementioned guide, it shows you how to enable "Direct
Push over HTTP(s)" in Exchange System Manager. I also have it as a Comms
Manager option on the phone. Once I sort this issue out, is it necessary to
have both of these Direct Push choices enabled to make the function work?
| A little confused here!
| Many thanks in advance,
| Ashley
