Permissions problem

I had a system with sensitive data in the Shared Docs with an open
share. The local user and one other system needed access to the data. I
changed the permissions in the share to just those two users and
removed the Everyone permission. Then I tried to access the share from
the second system. Said I didn't have permission. As a test, on the
local system, I found the share under Network and tried to access it.
It wouldn't let me. Here I am on the system where the share exists,
logged in as one of the two people with permission, and it wouldn't let
me access. I verified I had the user listed in the permissions right by
browing to find them rather than typing it in. I tried going to Map a
Drive where I could use the option to log in as a specific user and
there tried both typing it in and browsing to that user and it still
wouldn't let me in. Huh? I wasted two hours today just trying to do a
simple share. Am I just suffering one of those cruel Microsoft jokes or
am I missing something here?
A friend said I would need to be logged in as Administrator before I
could share to multiple users. I'll try that when I'm back there, but
it didn't give me any objections to setting it up that way. He also
said I may need to go into the Advanced button and specify that I'm
sharing not only the folder but everything in it. I'll verify that too
but I'm not sure that applies since when I tried to access it, it
wouldn't
even let me in the folder, not as if it was denying me access to
something in the folder. Does this make sense to anyone?
The users and the systems are XP and part of a SBS 2003 domain.
Thanks,
Tom
