Re: Network overview

I am not sure. That is why I requested a method to confirm this. There are
about 13 PC's and three printers that are networked with their own Ip address
(There are 15 licences). These printers have their drivers running off the
server. Whether SBS2003 is also configured as a print server, I am not sure.
How do I establish this and other basic info.
( The chances are that the licince are CALs ie no of users allowed access)

Thanks

I could be wrong but I think Lanwench asked you *how* they are
licensed. I.e. user CALs or device CALs.

Thanks for your reply.
My clients are licensed. Is there a way to determine seats available or seat
assignment ?

The loginscript is agood idea. Where can I find additional keywords eg
*date% that can be used in other applications.

I thought that SBS2003 had tools instead of using ping -a.

Command line commands - where do I get a list ?

I manage a SBS2003 REMOTELY. Sometimes I need to know
1 Which users / devices are currently logged on (so I do not exceed
the available licence seats)

How are you licensed right now?

2 How to determine which computer belongs on the network ie which
user is using which computer by name and IP address (all test or non
active computers to be removed)

That's really two things. You could add something to the login script -

echo %date% - %time% - %username% has logged on at %computername%
>>\\server\share\tracklogins.txt

You can also check out http://www.joeware.net/win/free/tools/oldcmp.htm -
it's very handy.

3 On a SBS2003 report how to identify an IP address to a device
(without using ping -a) or be able to assign a name to an IP address
so that the report will not contain IP addresses.

What's your goal, and why not ping -a ?

4 How to shut down

start | run | shutdown /i
....should get you started

or wake up a client from SBS.

You'd need Wake On LAN -capable workstations:
