Re: Cannot access server shares

Thanks for your help with this. There is no indication of a network
connection problem. All offline files are maintained on the sbs and sync
with the laptop without difficulty. The offline file folders are the only
folders listed when I query the server shares from the laptop (i.e.
command: \\servername).

Both machines have private IPs ...103 for the server and .22 for the
laptop. They can ping without any packet loss. A wireless router is used
for the 3 machines on the network. SBS is wired to the router.

All client machines are wireless and have Windows firewall running, with
partial control by group policy. File and Printer sharing is allowed.

Name Group Policy

File and Printer Sharing Yes (whole line greyed out)

2 different admin accounts cannot access the (non-"offline files") server
shares from the laptop. Both log ons are identical to server log ons that
work on the SBS.

Of interest, we have a MS Access developer setting up indirect sync and that
is how the laptop issue came up again (posted in Nov.). When he attempted
to access a new share created on the server, a log on popup appeared (for
some reason) and the server admin account was repeatedly rejected. That log
on also works from 2 desktops (1 xp and 1 w2k)

The laptop runs:

Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing
QoS Packet scheduler
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

IP address of the SBS server, IP address of the wireless laptop, ping
results between the two, etc. This is basic troubleshooting of a network
connection. You don't specify how your wireless laptop gets connected. Is
there an internal wireless access point? Or a wireless router? Does the
wireless connection on the laptop have Client for Microsoft Networks
enabled? Does it have Windows Firewall running?

A wireless xp pro laptop cannot access SBS 03 shared folders. They do not
appear in the list of server shares when viewed from the laptop.
Permissions on the SBS for the shares include the admin user (me). Wired
xp pro desktops have no problem.

The SBS uses R&RA and so Windows Firewall cannot be configured there.
How can I troubleshoot this?
