Re: Nokia E50 ActiveSync problem with SBS2003 SP2

Thank you for posting,

From the description, I understand this issue is that you cannot
synchronize your Nokia E50 with your SBS 2003 with exchange and receive
"Error in communication" message. If I am off base, please don't hesitate
to let me know.

I. Base on my knowledge, this issue may caused by many factors.

Let's try to Grant the IP address of your mobile.
=========
a. Open IIS Manager
b. Open properties of virtual directory OMA
c. Select Directory Security tab
d. Select IP address and Domain Name Restrictions\Edit
e. Make sure Granted Access is chosen.
f. Please run command "iisreset" (no quotation marks) to take effect
changes and check if the issue persists.

II. If the issue persists, Please re-run CEICW to re-configure all settings
in the wizard by do NOT choose the option "do not change..". And also
ensure publish OWA, OMA to internet.

1. Click Start on your SBS server, click Server Management.
2. Click To Do List and then click "Connect to the Internet".
3. Click Next, select connection type and click Next.
4. Select Enable firewall and click Next.
5. Click Next, go through the steps until the Web Services Configuration
page shows, make sure that "Outlook Mobile Access" and "outlook web Access"
are selected.
6. On the Web Server Certificate page, select to create a new Web services
certificate (input your FQDN as the web server certificate, for example, to
access the OWA site using the URL: https://aabbcc.com/exchange, you should
input the FQDN as: aabbcc.com) and then click Next.

7. Following the wizard to finish it.

III. And then please verify Authentication settings by the following steps.

- For Exchange-oma virtual directory:

1. Open IIS Manager
2. Open properties of virtual directory Exchange-oma
3. Select Directory Security tab
4. Select Edit in Authentication and access control box. Make sure the
authentication setting as below:

Authentication Methods
Enabled Basic authentication
Enabled Integrated Windows authentication
Disabled anonymous access

- For OMA virtual directory and Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual
directory:

1. Open IIS Manager
2. Open properties of OMA virtual directory and Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
virtual directory respectively.
3. Select Directory Security tab
4. Select Edit in Authentication and access control box. Make sure the
authentication setting as below:

Authentication Methods
Uncheck Enable anonymous access
Uncheck Integrated Windows authentication
Check Basic authentication

After that, please restart the IIS Admin Service (services.msc) and then
verify the issue.

IV. Also please check the following KB to make sure your configuration is
correct.

V. If problem still not solved, please kindly to gather the following
information for analyze:

1. For test aim, please temporarily disable SSL on the Microsoft server
activesync VD and exchange-oma VD, can the issues reproduced still? To do
so:

a. Open IIS manager.
b. Open properties of exchange-oma virtual directory and Microsoft server
activesync virtual directory respectively.
c. Select Directory Security tab
d. Select Edit in Secure Communications box. uncheck the Require secure
channel(SSL).
e. Click OK.

2. Did the activesync issue and the OMA issue happen before?

3. Please collect the IIS log on Exchange Server so that I can perform
further research:

1). On Exchange Serves, open IIS MMC, right click Default Web Site and then
click Properties.
2). Click Website tab and then check Enable logging. And click Properties
button, please check all options under the Advanced tab.
3). Stop the Default Website and RENAME the existing IIS log files under
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1.
4). Restart the Default Website and reproduce the problem, which will
generate new IIS log file with the exact error.
5). Wait for a while so that IIS Log can be synced. And then go to the
following folder on Exchange Server: C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1.
6). Send me the log files to my working email address

encountered the issue.

3. Please collect the IIS Metabase for analyze.

a. Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:

b. Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)
c. Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".
d. Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.
e. Send the file and the password to me.

4. Download and run the setup MPS report tool On the SBS 2003 server

a. Visit

15706/MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE to download the file.

b. Run the MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE on the server box.

c. Wait for 10~15 minutes.

d. Open Windows explorer, navigate to %SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Exchange\cab

e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-innjin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

5. For further trouble shoot the issue, please create a test account, let
me know the following information so that I can access mailbox by OMA in my
side.

- Test account credential
- Public URL for Exchange Server
- Domain name
