Our situation:
SBS Premium with SP1 installed
Need to Install R2 and CRM 3.0
CRM requires Reporting Services
Okay so off I start:
As I go through the install of R2, I try to upgrade the SQL 2000
default instance to the SQL 2005 included in R2. During the installation, I'm
given the following information:
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support,
see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software
Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books
Online.
Edition check:
Your upgrade is blocked because of edition upgrade rules. For more
information about edition upgrades, see the Version and Edition Upgrades
topic in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services Standard Edition
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support,
see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software
Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books
Online.
I see Susan Bradley's response of going to the following page:
http://www.sbslinks.com/sql2005.htm
But this has to do with Sharepoint. And it doesn't seemed geared toward the
SBS enviroment, although she is definitely smarter than I am and I'm probably
wrong. Regardless, do I need to uninstall SQL 2000 completely and then
install SQL 2005 in it's place? How do I migrate the databases? Do I just
unmount them, uninstall SQL 2000, install 2005, and then re-mount the
datbases? Do I have to "upgrade" the databases?
Thanks for any help on this topic.
Unless you have existing SQL databases that you need to retain/migrate, I'd simply uninstall SQL Server 2000 completely, and install SQL2005WE as a clean installation.
There's a section in the SBS FAQ on microsoft.com about installing CRM3 on SBS2003 R2 with some links to KB articles.
