Re: DNS Server Help!

Hi Zimmie:

1. Every nic on every computer in your LAN should point to your SBS servers
internal nic for DNS, and only to it.
2. Two nics is the recommended way to secure a SBS standard system, unless
you have a very robust firewall between you and the internet.
3. In the DNS applet under Administrative Tools, click on Forwarders and
see if the DNS servers for your ISP are listed. If not, re run the CEICW
and carefully fill in all the requested information.
4. I would suggest two nics... your connection would then look like this:

SBS Nic 1 ->Switch->client computers

SBS Nic 2 >Router/firewall->internet device->internet

and all your client workstations would use the internal firewall on the SBS
(NAT) to access the internet.

You ran the CEICW and specified your ISP DNS servers there? Also
sometimes
leaving out forwarders which then uses DNS root servers can sometimes
work
better. Please post an ipconfig /all for your servers and a sample
workstation.

Ok, so I'm very confused on my DNS Server setup. I was told since I
have
Active Directory I need to have my DNS Server running. Well here's my
situation. I don't host my website on my server. I just want it to
forward
all internet requests to my ISP. I thought I did that, but it's VERY
slow
and it can't find alot of websites. Am I missing something?

Please help!
