Well originally there were two mirrored 120Gb Seagate SATAs on the VIA RAID
controller but now after a motherboard replacement followed by a later
server crash subsequent restore and I am unable to sync the mirrored drive.
Through windows it gets to 2% and failes with: "!!!SyncMirror_Thread:
SyncMirror failed()"
Throught the BIOS it fails with: "Duplicating error!!! Array is not
functional"
This is why I want to try moving all this to a different drive to see if
that makes any difference.
For some reason windows disk management does not have any options to mirror
the drive visible.
We are using SBS Standard with the following partitions:
C:\ 22Gb System
D:\ 40Gb Data
E:\ 30Gb Exchange
X:\20Gb Source

Nick

Hi Nick,
Do you only have one hard drive in this server ?
Initially I would put another hard drive in and then Mirror the current to
the new hard drive using windows disk management (right mouse click my
computer and then manage)
After mirroring remove old hdd and put new hdd in its place. Alternatively
there are many 'ghost' proggies, Acronis Image is favorite
However before you continue:
1. What is current hdd? IDE, SATA or SCSI
2. WHat are the current partitions and sizes
Is this SBS Standard, Premium or R2 ?

Is it possible to copy the SBS system partition to a new disk drive, if
so what is the best way to do this?
We have a number of partitions all on the same disk, I would like to copy
everything onto a new disk and then boot from that. Question is what is
the best way of doing this?
My thoughts at the moment are:
I can add the new disk to the system so that it is accessible, no
problem.
The simple copy command will not copy permissions.
"XCopy /s/e/v /H /O" will copy the files with permissions but is that
enough?
Can I copy the system partition this way or will I find many files that
cannot be copied?
I may be able to remove both old and new drives and temporarilly transfer
them to a new machine to do the XCopy.
Problem is the partitions would all have the wrong drive letters. How
could I change the drive letter of the system partition before it
boots-up with the wrong partition letter?
Is there any other reliable software which would do this?
Thanks,
Nick
