RE: WSS 3.0 - WSUS and default web site issue in R2

Hi,
Thanks for answer.
I'll post also on WSUS.

How do you explain the fact that WSS 3.0 setup stop IIS Default web that run
on port 80 and install it self on that port? So now http://sbsname redirect
to WSS 3.0.

Is there a way to force WSS installation on other port than 80?
I'll use your recomandation an go back to inform you
Thanks and regards

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you can not use WSUS to
update clients after install WSS 3.0. If I have misunderstood the problem,
please don't hesitate to let me know.

It is mostly like a WSUS problem.

First, I have to confirm which document you consulted side by side to
install WSS 3.0

Installing Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Server Running Windows
Small Business Server 2003
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0daafc81-efff-4f5b-
a28a-8265f1e99f5b&displaylang=en

If you consulted the above document, there is no problem about WSS 3.0
installation. And this is a WSUS problem. Please repost your issue in WSUS
newsgroup for further assistance.

This newsgroup is primarily for issues involving deployment, configuration,
consultation and troubleshooting. The reason why we recommend posting
appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and
other partners who read the newsgroups regularly can either share their
knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.

WSUS Newsgroup: microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

If you did not consulted this document, please try to go through this
document and install the WSS 3.0 again.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:

1. Gather IIS log:

a. Open IIS snap-in.

b. Right click Default Web Site and click Properties.

c. Uncheck the "Enable Logging" box and click Apply.

d. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder and move all files to a
backup location.

e. Check "Enable Logging" box and click OK.

f. Run IISReset command.

g. Reproduce the problem and send the log file in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder to me for research.

2. Gather IIS Metabase:

1) Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en

2) Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)

3) Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".

4) Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.

5) Send the file and the password to v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I hope the information above is helpful.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
