Hi Garrett,
Thank you for posting and thanks for Russ' input.
From the description, I understand this issue is that Backup cannot run,and Removable Storages shows all media as offline. If I am off base, please
don't hesitate to let me know.
Base on my knowledge, this issue may relate to your tape driver or the
Removable Storages Service. First, let's check the following suggestions:
1. Please check whether the tape driver is in the HCL list?
2. Please uninstall the tape drive and remove it from the libraries, and
please ensure any registry keys related the tape drive has been deleted.
Then scan the computer for the hardware changes. Once the hardware is
detected, reinstall the latest tape driver. Then please try to test to see
if the RSM recognize the tape.
Note: Please do not use the Microsoft by default driver for the tape and
install the tape driver from the tape manufacture vendor.
3. Please also confirm the removable storage service is running fine.
a. Click Start, click Run, type Services.msc , and then click OK.
b. Locate the Removable Storage service in the Services console.
c. Double-click Removable Storage service. In the Startup type box, click
Automatic.
d. Click Start to start the service
e. Click Apply, and then click OK.
4. Please change another tape driver to see if issue persists.
If the issue persists, please help gather the following information:
1. What is the exact model of the tape device your client using?
2. Please check the status of the tape device in "Removable Storage"
manager (to open it, please right click "My Computer" and choose "Manage").
Please let me know if there is any thing abnormal (for example, there may
be a red "X" on the tape device.), also please get a screenshot and sent to
my working mailbox: v-innjin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
3. Is there any error record in the Application or System event log? If so,
please open Event Viewer and save the Application and System log file in
evt format then send to me.
4. Please reproduce the issue and send me the NTBackup logs. The logs are:
a. The Backupxx.log files in the folder ''C:\Documents and Settings\SBS
Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\NTBackup\data''.
Note: Before reproduce the problem, please open NTBACKUP, click
"Tools"->"Options" and then check "Detailed" on the "Backup Log" tab. Then
reproduce this issue wait some minutes and send the backup log to me.
b. The Sbsbackuplog0x.log files which can be located under the folder
''%sbsprogramdir%\Support\Backup Logs''.
5. Please download and run the setup MPS report tool on the SBS 2003 server.
a. Visit
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/ MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.exe to download the file.
b. Run the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.exe on the server box.
c. Wait for 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows explorer, navigate to
%SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab
e. Send the .cab file directly to me.
6. Please compress all the files and name ¡°37101430-Removable storage is
not recognizing any tapes in the drive¡± then send to me at
v-innjin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I appreciate your time. I am happy to be of assistance to you and look
forward to your reply.
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
